The committee to recall Sam Adams announced yesterday that they have raised $17,000 in their effort to gather 32,183 signatures. They have until April 20 to submit the valid signatures to trigger a recall election.
Leading the effort is former state Sen. Avel Gordly and Teresa McGuire, who volunteered with the first failed attempt to recall Adams.
Gordly told The Skanner News that holding a recall election was about restoring public trust in a political system that puts winning over integrity. She also believes voters didn't have full disclosure from Sam Adams before they cast their original ballots.
"We need a clean slate," she said.

The campaign's biggest backers include – Columbia Sportswear's Tim Boyle, automotive magnate Ron Tonkin, Karen Harris and David Brands. Most other contributors have donated $100 or less and are not released to the public.
Gordly has called upon Adams to sign the petition and urge people to participate in the process. She said it is the only thing he could do that would help restore her support in the mayor.
