Dane Reister, the officer who shot William Monroe in 2011, has been fired from the Portland Police Bureau.
Reister shot Monroe with live rounds instead of less lethal rounds that were supposed to be in the shotgun. Monroe sustained permanent disabling injuries.
Here's the PPB Press Release.
OFFICER INVOLVED IN 2011 SHOOTING TERMINATED FROM THE PORTLAND POLICE BUREAU
Posted: October 16th, 2013 4:13 PM
On Tuesday, October 15, 2013, the Portland Police Bureau notified Officer Dane Reister that his employment has been terminated for violations of Directive 315.30 (Unsatisfactory Performance) and Directive 1050.00 (Less Lethal Weapons and Munitions).
The violations stem from the June 30, 2011, incident involving the shooting of lethal rounds rather than less lethal shotgun rounds, which critically injured William Monroe.
"This has been a long and thorough investigation, which had complexities due to the pending criminal charges," said Chief Michael Reese. "The events of June 30th devastated the lives of those involved, but we hope that this action will bring some sense of closure."
Daryl Turner, president of Portland Police Association told OPB he was not able to comment.
