Hardesty Sworn In

Jo Ann Hardesty was sworn in Jan. 2 to Portland City Commission Position 3. She is the first woman of color ever to serve on Portland’s city council, and the third African American to do so.

Hardesty, who defeated outgoing Multnomah County Commissioner Loretta Smith in November, previously served as president of the NAACP Portland Branch and in the Oregon state legislature.
